| History: | Named for three generations of the Leighton family: Moses Leighton, who settled in the nearby Town of Sanbornton in 1836; Joel Leighton (d. 1936); and Ira Leighton (d. 1980); the property in Meredith served as a summer pasture for thefamily's stock which were driven from Sanbornton to Meredith each Spring and driven back in the Fall. Their descendants donated land to the town for future conservation. |
